Henry the bumble bee

For Halloween last week the kids were allowed to wear costumes to school. I was a bit nervous that Henry's bee costume wouldn't fit, or that he wouldn't go for it. But he loved it!
Take a look.
He loved his costume, though was dead-set against having his photo taken.
Check out his new froggy shoes! He won't take them off, even wearing them with his pyjamas.
Love those chunky little legs waiting for the school bus. We practiced "buzzing" for when he saw his teacher, Miss Nathalie. He did buzz at her too!
Love the strut he has going.

一,二,三,四。。。Fun counting idea!

I adapted this idea to help to teach Henry to count. The best thing about this "game" is that Henry thinks it's fun.

All it is, is two sets of paddle-pop sticks numbered one to ten, one set in English, the other in Chinese (中文).

There are a number of games we play.....

We mix up the paddle-pop sticks and then "guess" whether they are Chinese or English, and then sort them according to that.

We try to get the sticks in the correct order (though this is a little beyond us right now.)

The sticks are also great for learning number recognition. So far Henry's favourite number is 8. I'm not sure why.

Henry is able to count much better in Chinese than he can in English. In English he says "1, 3, 8", but in Chinese he can count from 1 to 10.

This video is of him practising his counting. It was taken a few weeks ago and it was one of the first times he managed it, with only a little prompting!

Tuesday craft: Fire Engine!

Tuesday afternoon was the last chance Henry and I had to spend time together before my big 3 day solo adventure.

And so, I figured that we should do something that we would both enjoy.

This is what we did. We made a Fire Engine! Complete with red glitter and a paddle-pop stick ladder.
